Detailed Solution

Gandhi Irwin Pact did not grant independence by Britishers. On January 25, 1931, Gandhi and the rest of the members of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) were unconditionally released from prison. Gandhi was requested by the CWC to begin talks with Viceroy Lord Irwin. Later, in Delhi, a pact known as the Delhi-Pact or Gandhi-Irwin Pact was struck. On March 5, 1931, Mahatma Gandhi and Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy of India, signed a political pact. As a result of the Gandhi-Irwin accord, the government pledged to release all political prisoners to protect individuals who had been involved in violence.
