Geo means Earth, and thermal means heat. The heat energy that comes from deep within the Earth is known as geothermal energy. 

All the fossil fuels have come from biomass (matter from living organisms like plants and animals) which is dead plant and animal matter. Plants rely on solar energy(or sun energy) for photosynthesis and animals rely on plants for food. So directly or indirectly the energy is transferred from the sun to biomass. 

Hence, geothermal energy is not ultimately derived from the Sun's energy.
