Distillation is the process of vaporising a substance and then collecting it in another beaker after condensing it. When the mixture is heated, the component with the lowest boiling point starts vaporising first and exits from the fractionating column. Thus, the first step is boiling the mixture up to the boiling point of the component with the lowest boiling point.
