Detailed Solution

Diamond is the hardest naturally occurring mineral. It has a relative hardness value of 10. Diamond is an allotrope of carbon and consists of carbon atoms. The carbon atoms in the Diamond make a tetrahedron structure possessing strong chemical bonds with four other carbon atoms. Diamond has a very high melting point and high density. It is a poor conductor of electricity. Diamond is used for cutting, drilling and grinding due to its hardness. It is also used for manufacturing filaments made of tungsten. It is widely used in jewellery making and is used by doctors in the removal of cataracts from the eyes.
