The slash and burn agriculture or shifting cultivation has many local names in different states of India. It is called Jhum or Jhoom in hilly states of northeast India, Podu in Andhra Pradesh and Koman in Odisa. It's called Bewar or Dahia or Deepa in Madhya Pradesh.
In this type of farming, the farmers cut the forest's trees and burn the plant remains. The ash is utilized to fertilize the land, which is then cultivated to grow crops.
