The quiescent stage of the cell cycle is represented by the G0 phase. The cells that do not divide further exit G1 phase to enter an inactive stage called quiescent stage (G0) of the cell cycle. Cells remain metabolically active but do not proliferate unless they receive an appropriate signal from the organism. 
(1) M phase represents the division phase of the cell cycle. M stands for mitotic division.
(2) G2 phase succeeds the S phase (DNA synthesis) and precedes mitosis. It is a preparatory stage for cell division. 
(3) G1 phase is the fi rst gap phase after mitosis and before DNA synthesis, during which the cell shows optimum metabolic activity and growth. It prepares for DNA replication.
