Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip of the Indian mainland. Kanyakumari is located at the convergence of the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean, and is the southernmost point of the Indian mainland. It is a district in Tamil Nadu state. In 1656, the name was "Comorin" and was known as Cape Comorin during British rule in India. The Indian government and the Government of Madras later renamed the city Kanyakumari.
