In 1920, Jawahar Lal Nehru toured the nation to understand the nature of peasant issues and grievances. By October 1920, Jawaharlal Nehr andh Baba Ramchandra and other, set up Awadh Kisan Sabha. The main function of the Kisan sabha was to highlight the peasant grievances and present the peasant demands. The Kisan sabha further assimilated the peasants into a greater mass struggle for Non-Cooperation. The peasants struggled against the talukdars and landlords who extracted higher revenue and demanded tax remission.
