Mercury, abbreviated Hg, is an atomic number 80 chemical element. It was previously known as “hydrargyrum” and had been known as “quicksilver”. Mercury is the only metallic element identified to be liquid under standard temperature and pressure conditions. At room temperature, mercury is the only metal that is a liquid. The majority of metals exist as solids. At room temperature, bromine is a liquid nonmetal.
