Detailed Solution

Shah Alam and Ahmad Shah were blinded by the nobles.
This severely diminished the emperor's standing during the Mughal era. Ahmed Shah Bahadur, who in 1748, beat Ahmed Shah Abdali in the Battle of Manipur inherited a severely depleted Mughal state and ruled it for six years while handing over control of the government to competing factions. The wazir Imad-ul-Mulk removed him from power, and he and his mother were eventually both rendered blind. Under the later Mughal emperors, the efficiency of the imperial administration deteriorated.
