Switzerland was not interested in extending power over the Balkans. With the dismemberment of the Balkan from Ottoman rule and after independence, some countries of western Europe have developed a strong interest in the Balkans region. Russia, Germany, England, and Austria- Hungary had a strong interest in the Balkans but Switzerland and Japan don’t have an interest in the region of the Balkans. Russia helped Balkan in the first war of Balkan with Turkey to take Macedonia away from Turkey in 1912. This was fought between the Balkan League (Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Montenegro) and the Ottoman Empire.
