Cotton weavers in India did not face the problem of frequent strikes in Indian industries. During the nineteenth century, the scenario in markets changed. The British East India Company, who were the ones who acquired the political command over India, proclaimed import duties on Indian textile goods in England markets. Therefore, the prices of Indian textiles increased, and British textiles got greater demand because of comparatively low prices due to the mechanised process of manufacture. So basically, the major problems confronted by the Indian weavers were the scarcity of good raw cotton, shrinking local markets and collapsing export markets.
