Namdev belonged to Maharashtra. Namdev was a Bhakti saint who wrote fervently devotional poetry in both Marathi and Hindi. Namdev belonged to a low caste. He worked as a tailor. He underlined the Marathis' shared cultural heritage by instituting a custom known as the Mahapurusha Sampradaya. He regarded all men and women as being equal. He promoted the use of dedication to understand god. There are a few of his devotional songs in the Guru Granth Sahib.
