Nevertheless, on 5 March 1931, Gandhiji and Lord Irwin, the Viceroy of India, endorsed an agreement. The deal was supported on the foundation of the success of the Salt Satyagraha by Gandhiji against the atrocities of the British on the Indian public. Gandhiji, alongside other leaders, was detained. Lord Irwin needed to stop the development as it accumulated massive media consideration, inconveniencing the British domain. Gandhiji was set free from jail, and Lord Irwin marked the settlement soon.
