Detailed Solution

Meghalaya has mostly laterite soil. Laterite soil is found around the coasts and in other parts of the country where there are alternate dry-wet seasons. Laterite soil forms when there is heavy rainfall and high temperatures. When wet, this type of soil becomes mushy and hardens when dry. Soil leaching happens because heavy rains wash away the productive portion of the soil. In Meghalaya, laterite soil predominates. Because most microorganisms, particularly decomposers like bacteria, are destroyed by high temperatures, the soil's humus content is low.
