Sardinia and Piedmont were the following states ruled by an Italian princely house before the unification of Italy.
The Italian royal family controlled Sardinia and Piedmont. The north was under the control of the Habsburgs of Austria; the Pope controlled the centre, and the southern region was under the control of the Bourbon rulers of Spain. Even Italian did not acquire the usual structure, but there were many regional and regional variations. In 1858, Italy was isolated into seven states. The Habsburgs of Austria dominated the northern provinces. The Pope governed the state of focus. The southern region was under Spanish control. The only state, Sardinia-Piedmont, was controlled by the Italian royal family.
