Detailed Solution

An electrolyte is a substance dissolved in pure water to make it a conductor of electricity.
The process of electrolysis is the method of decomposition of a compound from its solution by passing an electric current through the chemical solution which is called an electrolyte. Pure water does not conduct electricity, only charged particles can carry current from the anode to the cathode. So for making pure water to be the conductor of electricity, chemicals are added to make it a charge carrier. An electrolyte is capable of conducting electricity in its solution form. So, the substance is dissolved in pure water to make it a conductor of electricity called the electrolyte.
