General Dyer took command when martial law was imposed in Amritsar in 1919. General Dyer did this because he saw the crowd of people gathered in Jallianwala bagh/ park and General Dyer issued orders of “The martial law”. According to his act not more than two people can gather or form a group and meet at a place. The objective of this act was to resist the mobilised protest against the ruling authorities and also to stop the nationalist's revolt against the Rowlatt act. Rowlatt act was also known as the black act because this act was the cause of the Jallianwala massacre.
