Reservation of the seat in parliament was not a demand of Srilankan Tamils. Because of his leading a particular rural community, distrust and tension were created between the Sinhala community and the Tamils. The Sri Lankan Tamils launched their struggle and movement against this partiality. From the parties and organisations, they demanded to make Tamil the official language of Sri Lanka. From their point of view, this regional autonomy will help them secure jobs and education and show equality of opportunity. This conflict between the two communities turned into a civil war. Due to this war, thousands of people from both communities were killed, and numerous people were forced to leave Sri Lanka.
