Sambad Kaumudi was published by Raja Ram Mohan Roy. Ram Mohan was an Indian social reformer. He studied Persian, Arabic, and Sanskrit, as well as the Quran, Upanishads, and Vedas, and he translated several of the religious scriptures into English. All these had a tremendous impact on his religious beliefs. His most notable achievements are his fight for women's rights, particularly Sati, a century-old practice. Roy is known as the "Father of Modern India." He founded two newspapers, one in Bengali called Sambad Kaumudi and the other in Persian called Mirat-ul-Akbar.
