Detailed Solution

In an Amoeba, the organelle responsible for supplying digestive enzymes is called the lysosome. Lysosomes are tiny, membrane-bound sacs present inside the amoeba’s cytoplasm. They contain powerful hydrolytic enzymes that can break down complex food materials into simpler substances. When an amoeba captures food and forms a food vacuole, the lysosomes fuse with it.

After fusion, the enzymes from the lysosomes are released into the food vacuole. These enzymes digest the food into simpler, soluble forms — such as glucose, amino acids, and fatty acids which can be absorbed by the amoeba’s cytoplasm.

Lysosomes are sometimes called the “digestive bags” or “suicide sacs” of the cell because they can digest not only external food but also damaged or old cell parts.
