Detailed Solution

The Gandhi-Irwin pact led to the end of the Civil Disobedience Movement. The Civil Disobedience Movement, much like the Non-Cooperation movement, started well. Many peasants boycotted paying taxes, which affected revenue adversely. Foreign goods were boycotted in favour of the native ones, hurting European economic interests. But as the movement became more widespread, it took violent turns too. The arrest of Abdul Gaffar Khan and the bearing up of Satyagrahis prompted violent responses from the public, which Gandhiji called off the movement. It formally ended on 5th March 1931, with the signing of the Gandhi-Irwin Pact.
