Poona Pact resolved the issue of separateDalit electoratess between Gandhi and Ambedkar in 1932.Throughh the Depressed Classes Association,B.R. Ambedkar put forward the demand for a separate electorate for depressed classes. However, Gandhiji opposed and went on the fast until death after the British accepted Ambedkar’s demand. He believed that separate electorates would slow down their accommodation in the mainstream. Ambedkar accepted Gandhiji's viewpoint, which culminated in the Poona Pact. It provided reserved seats in the provincial and central legislative bodies for the Depressed Classes (later referred to as Schedule Castes. Still, thesee seats had to be chosen by the general electorate.
