Nomads are people who do not live in one place but move from one area to another to earn a living. In many parts of India, nomadic pastoralists are on the move with their herds of goats and sheep, or even camels and cattle. Many nomadic pastoralists like Gujjar bakarwals of Jammu and Kashmir, Dhangar of the Maharashtra plateau, Raikas of Rajasthan, Maldhari of the Rann of Kutch, etc. Many of them migrated to different places throughout the year, depending on the conditions of the places. After colonial rule, many restrictions were imposed on the nomadic people, making their lives difficult. Restrictions on their movements were put in place, and nomads were considered criminal tribes.
