Oilseeds cover around 12% of India’s cropped area. Most of it is a Kharif crop grown in drylands and rainfed. However, it is also grown in southern India during the rabi season. The top producers are Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. Groundnut yield is relatively high in Tamil Nadu, where it is partially irrigated. However, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka have low yields.
