Which phase of the moon provides no illumination?

The moon has several phases depending on the light received and illuminated. New Moon is when the moon lies between the sun and the earth with its dark side facing the planet. It causes no illumination on the earth. Contrary to this, the full moon has its light side facing the earth, completely lighting up the planet. The waxing crescent moon is an intermediate phase between the new and half moons.
