  • Androgen-Binding Protein (ABP): ABP is secreted into the lumen of the seminiferous tubules and into the interstitial fluid around the spermatogenic cells. ABP's primary role is to bind to testosterone, keeping its concentration high within the seminiferous tubules. This high concentration of testosterone is essential for supporting the final steps of spermatogenesis, which involve the maturation of sperm cells.
  • Inhibin: Once a sufficient degree of spermatogenesis has been achieved for male reproductive functions, the sustentacular cells release inhibin. Inhibin is a protein hormone named for its inhibitory function. It acts on the anterior pituitary gland to inhibit the secretion of FSH. When FSH secretion is inhibited, it slows down the rate of spermatogenesis.
