The plantation worker's satyagraha associated with the place of Champaran, Bihar, were forced to grow indigo on the 3/20th of their land. However, the demand for indigo declined, but the British government did not remove it. Instead, they acquired dues from the peasants illegally. The peasants did not agree to the terms of the Britishers and resisted the oppression. A local, Raj Kumar Shukla, invited Gandhi to Champaran to solve the problem. He analysed the situation and demanded the removal of this tinkathia system. He also demanded the refund of the illegal dues extracted from the peasants.
