Detailed Solution

In general, sunrise happens first in the east and sunset happens first in the west. Since the Earth rotates from west to east, the eastern parts of India see the sun before the western parts do.

First Sunrise in India

  • The first sunrise in India happens in Dong, a small town in the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Dong is located at 28.1702° N, 97.0417° E.
  • It was identified in 1999 as the first place in India to see the sunrise, which is why it is often called "India's Land of the Rising Sun."
  • During winter, the sun rises here around 5:54 a.m. and sets around 4:30 p.m. — much earlier than most parts of India.

Last Sunrise in India

  • The last place to see the sunrise in India is Guhar Moti, a village in Gujarat, located at 23.6352° N, 68.5424° E.
  • This area is on India’s westernmost edge.
  • In winter, the sun rises here around 7:20 a.m., which is over an hour later than in Dong.

So, the first sunrise in India is seen in Dong, Arunachal Pradesh, and the last sunrise is seen in Guhar Moti, Gujarat, due to the Earth’s rotation from west to east.
