Detailed Solution

Malwa Plateau lies between the Aravalli and the Vindhya Ranges. To the north of the Vindhya range lies the Malwa plateau of volcanic origin. The Chambal, Betwa, and Son rivers flow through the plateau which has an elevation of about 500 meters. The black soil of volcanic origin found in the plateau is very fertile and has excellent water retaining capacity, thereby favoring cultivation. For this reason, much irrigation is not needed for crops cultivated in the region like wheat, soybean, and cotton. The black soil makes cotton textiles one of the major industries in the area. The plateau is an extension of the Deccan Trap, the very fertile black soil region in the peninsular region.
