Detailed Solution

The Godavari is also known as the Dakshin Ganga. It is the largest peninsular river system. The Godavari originates from the Nasik district in Maharashtra, is 1465 km long, and discharges into the Bay of Bengal in Andhra Pradesh. The Godavari is made up of 49% Maharashtra, 20% Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and 31% Andhra Pradesh. The Penganga, the Indravati, the Pranhita, and the Manjra are its main and important tributaries. After reaching Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh, the river splits into several branches, forming a large delta. It is accessible only in the lower delta.
