Detailed Solution

Shivaji was insulted by Aurangzeb. The sixth Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb, was also known as Alamgir, Persian for "conqueror of the world." Mughal-Rajput relations deteriorated further as he was dubbed the most divisive emperor of the Mughal Empire. In opposition to Akbar's notion of intercommunal harmony, Aurangzeb implemented some traditional policies throughout his rule, including reinstating the religious levy known as the Jizya and destroying Hindu temples. The relationship was drastically diminished after 1167. Raja Jai Singh I, a Rajput monarch of Amber, and Maratha Chatrapati Shivaji signed the Treaty of Purandar on June 11, 1665, following the invasion of the fort of Purandar in 1664 by Raja Jai Singh and troops dispatched by Aurangzeb. Jai Singh suggested that Shivaji meet Aurangzeb to get the treaty approved. However, when he was forced to face court, the Mughal court ridiculed him, and he quickly understood that he was under house arrest and could not leave Agra. Finally, Shivaji and his son were able to flee, and he then continued his revenge campaign against the Mughals while establishing himself as an independent king.
