Detailed Solution

The primary sector provides the highest employment in India. Even so, after a long time since independence, the primary industry remained the largest provider of jobs. Different reasons can be attributed to this. One primary reason was that there were not enough employment opportunities to employ people in the secondary and tertiary sectors. The primary sector also faced the issue of disguised unemployment during this period, when the number of people employed was more than required. Another primary reason was that the secondary and tertiary sectors needed more skilled and educated workers than those working in the primary industry. So, the available people did not have the required skills. Mechanization was another reason for the lack of employment opportunities in the secondary sector.
