Detailed Solution

Mangal Pandey led the Revolt of 1857 from the front.
The Indian, or Sepoy Mutiny, began with an Indian soldier, Mangal Pandey, attacked British officers on March 29, 1857. (this uprising is often called the First War of Independence in India). He was born into a wealthy, high-caste Brahman family with strong Hindu values. According to some historians, Pandey enlisted in the British East India Company's army in 1849 after being recruited by a brigade that marched past him. He enlisted as a soldier in the 6th Company of the 34th Bengal Native Infantry, which had a sizable Brahman population (sepoy).
