Jyotiba Phule worked for the casteless society. He worked to eradicate untouchability and caste inequalities. He has also worked to educate women and oppressed caste people in the state of Maharashtra. Along with his wife, Savitibai Phule, he started India’s first girls’ school in Vishrambag Wada, Pune, in 1848. He also promoted widow remarriage and started a home for dominant caste pregnant widows to give birth in a safe and secure place and an orphanage to reduce the infanticide rate. He not only worked for the oppressed caste but also for women and children of other castes.
