Detailed Solution

Black soil is also known as regur soil.
In India, it is found mainly in two states: Gujarat and Maharashtra. This soil was formed centuries ago in the Deccan traps by the disintegration of oozing lava flows. It is said that the climatic conditions and the parent rock's material are essential factors for forming black soil. This soil is distributed over the Deccan plateau and the Malwa plateau region. It is black because it is high in iron, potash, lime, calcium, magnesium, and humus; it is moisture-retentive, which is suitable for crops, mainly cotton. Hence, it is also known as black cotton soil.
