Detailed Solution

Jammu & Kashmir enjoyed a special status and has now been a union territory. The state of Jammu and Kashmir had its national flag and constitution until 2019. Residents of other Indian states were not permitted to own land or property in Jammu and Kashmir. According to Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, Jammu and Kashmir was the only state in India to enjoy special autonomy. This provision stated that no law enacted by the Indian Parliament, other than those relating to defence, communication, and foreign policy, would be extended to Jammu and Kashmir unless the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature ratified it. In 2019, Article 370 was overturned since it was only intended to be a temporary measure. At the same time, Jammu and Kashmir were split into two union territories: Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
