Detailed Solution

Jhansi and Satara were annexed under the Doctrine of Lapse. Dalhousie imposed the doctrine of lapse. The philosophy of lapse was a policy of annexation of states introduced by Dalhousie when he served as governor-general of India. The philosophy of reversal applied to those states that did not have a natural heir, like Jhansi, which was annexed in 1854 under the principle of lapse because Peshwa and Rani Laxmi Bai did not have a son. Hence, they adopted a boy as the heir of the throne of Jhansi. But he was not the natural biological son of Peshwa and Laxmi Bai. Therefore, Jhansi was annexed under the Doctrine of Lapse.
