Both national and state importance are included in the Concurrent List. The Constitution of India lays down the distribution of legislative powers between the two levels of government in the three lists. The lists are known as the Union List, State List and Concurrent List. The Concurrent List comprises the subjects holding the Union as well as the State interest. The laws on such subjects can be made by both the Union as well as the State government. However, in case of any dispute or conflicting law, it is the authority of the Union government that prevails. The subjects in the Concurrent List include education, marriage, adoption, succession, forests etc.
