Detailed Solution

  • Water and carbon tetrachloride are immiscible liquids which means they do not mix with each other.
  • In order to separate two immiscible liquids we use a separating funnel.
  • In this method, both liquids are added to the separating funnel and kept resting for some time.
  • When the mixture is kept undisturbed, water being lighter forms the top layer and carbon tetrachloride form the lower layer.
  • Later carbon tetrachloride is collected by opening the stopper.
