Detailed Solution

The period from 1830 to 1857 is referred to as the ‘Delhi Renaissance’ period by many. The epicentre of this renaissance was the Delhi College or Dilli Kalij, which started as a Madrasa in 1792 and eventually raised to a prominent college of science and literature by 1825 and contributed largely to the renaissance. The college developed a reputation as a learning center in the Mughal period. Even British officials were now interested in Urdu literature and Indian culture. All this came to an end with the Revolt of 1857. The city was plundered and destroyed when the British regained control, ending the renaissance period.
