Detailed Solution

Hooghly had trade links with Southeast Asian ports.
The principal port on India's western coast, Surat, served as a channel between the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. The principal ports on the eastern coast were Hooghly in Bengal and Masulipatnam on the Coromandel coast. They had commercial ties to ports in Southeast Asia. Hooghly port became one of the Portuguese commerce hubs because it was simple for them to load their ships with weapons and cannons and escape from the Mughals by crossing the river. Due to the short distance and straightforward navigation, they later began using it as one of the most significant sites to trade with Southeast Asia.
