The pipeline is a new arrival on the transportation map of India. Pipelines are the latest means of transport of goods used in India. The first interstate pipeline in 1987 was followed by several others, connecting the major oil fields to the factories and consumers. Pipelines were used for carrying water to industries but now are used to carry crude and refined petroleum, fuels like oil, natural gas, biofuels, etc. Solids are also transported in slurry form. It is a safe method of transportation for natural gas involving almost zero risk.
