Detailed Solution

Jhum cultivation is popularly known as slash and burn cultivation, and in most cases, it is practised in the North-Eastern states of India.
This type of cultivation involves burning down the trees in a particular forest region to clear land. This cleared land is used for cultivation purposes, and since the soil contains the remains of the burned-down trees, it is rich in minerals. The Nomadic tribes mainly practice this type of cultivation where they cultivate in the cleared region for a particular period, after which they move to another place, and the same process is repeated. This method results in deforestation, which is why it is not recommended.
