Detailed Solution

Alluvial soil is the most common and essential soil type. In reality, alluvial soil covers the entire northern plains. These were deposited by three major Himalayan river systems: the Indus, Ganga, and the Brahmaputra. These soils also spread along a narrow corridor in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Alluvial soil can also be found in the eastern coastal plains, particularly in the Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, and Kaveri river deltas. These soils are generally quite fertile. They typically include an acceptable amount of potash, phosphoric acid, and lime, making them suitable for growing sugarcane, paddy, wheat, and other cereal and pulse crops.
