Detailed Solution

Alluvial soil is found in the river delts of the Eastern Coast and Coastal plains, particularly in the deltas of the rivers such as Kaveri, Krishna, Mahanadi, and the Godavari. Alluvial soil is the most important soil in India, widely spread throughout the country due to its fertility. This soil is made up of deposits from the three rivers systems-The Ganga, the Indus, and the Brahmaputra. It consists of sand, silt, and clay.  According to the age of alluvial soil, it is classified as old alluvial, Bangar, and new alluvial soil, Khadar. Khadar is more fertile than the Bangar as it mostly contains kanker nodules. Khadar has more fine particles with an adequate proportion of potash, phosphoric acid, and lime for the growth of crops such as sugarcane, paddy, wheat, pulses, and other cereals.
