Detailed Solution

The use of iron was a common factor in the development of second urbanisation in India. Second urbanisation began in 500 BCE. There were new people, and other settlements began near the Ganges plains and the central Ganges plains. The main feature of second urbanisation was the use of iron tools. Large tracts of forest lands were cleared with the help of iron axes and iron ploughs, and these large tracts of forest lands were used for cultivation earlier, leading to a surplus in agriculture. The beginning of city life was also noticed during the second urbanisation and settlements in Gangetic plains, especially in central Gangetic plains. Therefore the use of iron was a common factor in developing second urbanisation.
