Society of Revolutionary Republican Women was the most famous political club started by French women.
Women had an active role in the events of the French Revolution. They hoped that getting involved would pressure the revolutionary government to enact policies that would improve their lives. Most third estate women had to labour arduously to make ends meet. The majority of them lacked access to education and employment training. Only daughters of nobility or more affluent third estate citizens were permitted to attend schools. Working women had to look after their families and earned less money than men.
