The Society of Revolutionary Republican Women was a well-known political club founded by French women.
From the very beginning, women actively participated in the French Revolution. They intended to persuade the revolutionary government to pass legislation enhancing their quality of life. But most third-class women had to work very hard to survive and did not have access to education or job training. The only girls who could enrol in classes belonged to the nobility or more affluent third estate members. Working women also had to take care of their families. Compared to men, they were paid less. As a result, women started their political organisations and publications to discuss and express their concerns. The Society of Revolutionary Republican Women was the most well-known political organisation.
