A universal indicator can give a rough approximate reading for the pH of a solution and also it is not accurate within a narrow range. As the natural indicator is a  mixture of several different indicators that give a range of colors depending on the pH of the solution. In order to get a more accurate reading of pH, a more specific indicator should be used.
